‘On Friday 28th November The Ramsey Academy, Halstead sent an Under 13 Girls’ football team to compete in the Football League Girls’ Cup. Over the last couple of months the P.E department has been running a girls’ football session after school, open to all year 7 and 8 students. The level of enthusiasm and interest was fantastic, with over 25 pupils attending these sessions. Unfortunately we could only select 8 pupils in a team to represent our school.
Taking place in Colchester, with over 15 local schools sending teams, The Ramsey Academy, Halstead team conducted themselves brilliantly. In an extremely tough group, which included the eventual winners, we failed to qualify for the latter stages of the tournament. However some great knowledge and experience of football was gained, particularly as, for the majority of our students, this was the first time they had played a competitive match.
The girls’ attitudes and behaviour were, as always, brilliant and they did myself (Mr. Charlton) and the school very proud. Player of the Tournament awards go to: our goalkeeper, Sky Riddington and our goal scorer, Ellie Hood.
As a result of this positive experience, we are hoping that our pupils continue to attend training sessions and develop their knowledge and skill levels. Training will take place weekly on a Tuesday after school.
