Strategic Reading 

Strategic Reading is the responsibility of all staff in school regardless of the subject they teach. There must be opportunities to develop strategic reading in all subjects.

We want our students to develop the ability to read for a variety of purposes and aim to foster confidence in and a lifelong love of reading. We recognise reading as a critical life skill, linked to access, progress and achievement in all areas of the curriculum as well as the wider world.

We aim to ensure that students are enabled and learn to:

• Read with understanding and expression
• Develop strategies to locate, interpret and use information
• Infer meaning from text
• Challenge and evaluate content of what they are reading
• Approach multimodal texts with confidence and insight
