Year 7 and 8 Indoor Athletics Competition

On Tuesday 17th December, a team of year 7 and 8 students took part in an indoor athletics competition at The Maltings Academy, Witham. We took part in a variety of events that involved running, jumping and throwing.

Foxburrow Grange Care Home

James Abbott and Kieran Collins (Year 11 GCSE Music students) put on a 60 minute show for the residents of the Foxburrow Grange Care Home, Colchester last night (Wednesday 11th December). They showcased several numbers including some Christmas carols and both sang and played the guitar. The visit was such a success that the students have been invited to perform again.

Cross Country

Students from years 7-10 took part in the district cross country competition on Wednesday 20th December at The Discovery Centre, Braintree. The course wasn’t easy to run as it was very wet and muddy. Despite this, the competition was a massive success, with plenty of promising performances. We are currently awaiting the final results for both the group and individual places. Well done to all who competed!

Every Tuesday since November 12th, all students and staff of The Ramsey Academy, Halstead have participated in DEAR time. This involved stopping what we were doing and reading for pleasure for 20 minutes.

Shakespeare Schools Festival

On Tuesday 12th November the Ramsey Academy took a cast of 24 students to The Lakeside Theatre in Colchester to perform their production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare.

A massive congratulations and thank you to all the students who helped make the 2013 Open Evening a resounding success. Well over 100 students helped parents and their Year 5/6 students to get to know the Academy and find out about our school and the improvements we have made.

Sports Day Review

Sports Day was a huge success, with students from all year groups participating in a variety of different sports throughout the day. During periods 1-4 students competed in the following sports: netball, football, table tennis and a gym challenge.  In each lesson other students watched the events and gave their support to their teams. In the afternoon, during period 5, the relays took place and the whole school came out to watch.

Two former students have achieved outstanding A Level results in this summer’s examination series.  Samuel Chumbley and Georgina Findlater left in 2010 and both went on to study at The Sixth Form College in Colchester.

Students should arrive at the venue between 6.00 and 6.30 p.m.   We are aiming to sit down to eat at approximately 7.30. The evening will finish at midnight and students will need to be collected promptly.

The Ramsey College hosted the School Games Primary swimming gala on Wednesday 22nd May at Halstead Sports Centre. Well done to the Ramsey College students who helped to lead, organise and officiate the event.
