Year 9 Options
Options (GCSE 2026-2028)
The selection of optional subjects is one of the crucial moments in any student’s secondary education. All students have already started to complete work of GCSE standard in all their subjects but will opt to specialise and follow a two year GCSE/BTEC programme, starting in Year 10. The experience of studying some of the GCSE content in Year 9 will allow staff to give specific guidance to ensure students have the aptitude for particular subjects and allow students to make a more informed choice.
We aim to ensure that the information and guidance provided will support your child through the options process and ensure that their informed choices lead to the maximisation of their potential.
The wide range of courses on offer will enable you to have an individual programme that builds on your strengths and interests. At The Ramsey Academy, we have always been determined that students should have a broad, ambitious and balanced education. We also believe it is important that learning is personalised to the needs and interests of individual students.

Further Advice
It is important to remember that the decisions you make now will influence your choices at Post 16 and, if you want to pursue education further, at degree level. Making the right decision, and selecting the options that are right for you, matters.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to choose courses which you enjoy, and which suit your interests, skills and future career ambitions. To make the best of your opportunities, please consider your answers to these questions:
- What are the subjects you want to do?
- What is your progress like in these subjects? Will you be successful?
- What will your choices lead to in the sixth form, college or employment?
- What is available to you after sixth form or college?
- What career do you want? Where do your aspirations lead?
- What are your skills?
