Jack Petchey Award

About the Foundation

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up to inspire and motivate young people across London and Essex by providing exciting projects and programmes for them to get involved in. We also recognise the outstanding achievements of today’s young people by awarding them for their hard work and positive impact in their community.

Jack Petchey Foundation

We are honoured to be associated and work closely with the Jack Petchey Foundation. We are currently running the Gold Achievement Award as well as the ‘Speak Out Challenge’.

The Achievement Award allows the school to present 3 awards per term. Our students and staff are all involved in the nominating process as well as selecting the winners for each month.

Each winner receives a certificate, pin badge, notes from Sir Jack Petchey CBE and their congratulations letter with Achievers Card. These are presented during assemblies and photographs are displayed around the Academy, on the website and in the Ramsey Voice, the Academy newsletter.

The winner also gets the opportunity to decide (in consultation with the Academy staff) how their £250 grant will be spent in order to make the most impact for our students.

The winners also have the opportunity to attend the Annual Schools event in order to collect their Achievement Award medallion.

We feel these Awards are extremely special as students are nominated by their peers as well as Academy staff. Winners are extremely proud of gaining the Award and we look forward to continuing our celebration of students who volunteer, commit, support and go that extra mile.

We are committed to investing in our young people therefore we annually fund the Jack Petchey Speak out challenge for all of our Year 10 pupils. The ability to read, write and communicate is invaluable to ensure our young people have the necessary life skills. The speak out challenge develops opportunities for confident public speaks to flourish but also allows other students to gain confidence in an area which they need to develop.

It all starts with an expert led, interactive workshop. By the end of the workshop every student will have delivered a speech they have created from scratch to their classmates and a small panel of judges, usually a couple of teachers, who select top-quality speeches.

The Jack Petchey speak out challenge is the perfect platform to hon speaking and listening skills which links to the English syllabus as later in the year, Year 10 students are required to complete their GCSE English language Speaking and listening assessment.

We are exceptionally proud to have hosted the Jack Petchey regional finals and that our students have achieved a standard where they can compete with the best public speakers in this area and beyond.
