Product Design - Introduction
Within years 7, 8 and 9 students undertake a design and make task over 12 one hour lessons. Students are taught how to respond creatively to a design brief in order to solve problems. Students are always encouraged to respond to design problems with original, creative and exciting ideas and then choose the best processes, tools and equipment for manufacturing them. Throughout each project students are taught to analyse, evaluate, test and suggest improvements for their ideas.
At GCSE level students are introduced to the AQA Design & Technology - Product Design Specification. Within this subject students acquire knowledge and understanding of the working characteristics of materials and manufacturing processes and are encouraged to utilise this when designing products. Students are taught a range of both designing and manufacturing skills.
